Scout moves Alexander to Four Star Status

Well, Rodney Alexander is now shown as a four star recruit on the Scout website, so the Illini class of 2007 is looking better today. It is almost certainly a top 25 class now with two recruits rated four star (McCamey is the other. If Watkins is changed to four star, we have a really strong class for those people who follow the stars.

Kind of like dancing with the stars, it is all trivial. Let's forget about the subjective opinions and see if these Weber players can win ball games.

I think the point is that Weber has been labeled as a good coach that can't recruit, and this speaks to him being able to recruit four star athletes. Weber can win with four star athletes, and five star athletes tend to play only one or two years.

You won't win that argument with too many people, Ron. Weber is coming off a final 4. Yet, he was able to land no top 50 recruits last year or this year.

Alexander is a JUCO. Most Juco's look good in junior college. Stimler and Mike White of IU are prime examples. White was a JUCO player of the year and he was horrible at IU this year.

Weber landed McCamey who is a top 100 guy. Cole and Tisdale will be good players in Weber's system but are not top tier players. The California kid is athletic but does not have much of a shot yet. Semrau has to recover from injury and is not technically in this class.

Overall, Weber's recruits are ok. Perhaps even enough to win because he is a good coach. But no one will confuse this recruiting class for an elite class. An argument that this class shows he can recruit is one without merit.
