Tony Bennett expected to take IU Head Coach Job

As posted here earlier, Tony Bennett was offered the head coaching position at IU, and is expected to accept the position. Tony Bennett is the son of Dick Bennett, who previously was the Head Basketball coach at Wisconsin. Tony took over at Washington State after his father retired, and was able to get his Cougars to the Sweet Sixteen before losing in this year's NCAA tourney. This is an excellent hire for IU, and should help them expedite the recovery of their program, after the Kelvin Sampson fiasco.

Bennett may; however, choose the Cal job or the LSU job.

The IU offer (although publicly denied) may not be enough. IU wants to announce a new coach during final 4. Your readers will just have to wait and see if miracle money appears for the buy out of Donovan, Miller or Bennett. If no buy out money, then a good old unemployed coach like Montgomery (former stanford) may be what the doctor ordered for a year or two.

Ahh, he almost has to take the IU job. It's one of the top 5-6 basketball programs in the country, he has Midwestern roots, and is perfect for the job. Cal and LSU jobs are not even close to being as attractive as IU. Just my thoughts.

But, Bennett's sister coached the IU B-ball team and had a few run in with Greenspan. Ultimately, she resigned after a serious accident.

So far, Bennett has not leaped to accept the contract which may be a bad sign for the Bennett to IU advocates. Maybe Krueger or Alford or Montgomery or Brownwell or some other second tier choice may be necessary.

Stay glued to your T.V. set during the final four. Drinks on Ron if it is Pitino or Barnes or Miller!

Scot,

Good point, I guess I assumed Greenspan had been silently fired after the Sampson issues. Maybe he leaves sometime this summer in the dark of the night. If Greenspan is an impediment to hiring a good coach, even more reason to fire him.

Still, they can't go wrong with Kruger, Miller or Barnes.
