Jeff Jordan Article on Yahoo

Jeff Jordan is featured in a Yahoo Sports article, and explains that he was planning to go to Illinois for the academics, then decided to play basketball too.

Weber decided to change him to a point guard (due to his size) and expects him to contribute as a junior point guard.

Overall, great exposure for Jeff Jordan and the Illini basketball program.

Segment on Jeff Jordan at Illinois

In case you missed it, the piece on Jeff Jordan and his Dad was nicely done and fun to watch. Great PR for the Illini basketball program and Bruce Weber. The weak part was Matt Lauer trying to make a headline or theme for the story about how much pressure Jeff Jordan must feel, since the fans expect him to play like his father. Anyone who knows anything about Jeff Jordan knows that he is projected as a guy who won't play much his freshman year, but might develop into a nice player over the next couple of seasons. If he was a carbon copy of his Dad, he would have been a five star recruit with a full ride at any major program. Lauer has very low journalism standards, but the segment was still fun to watch.

Sun-Times Article about Jeff Jordan

Here's a nice article about Jeff Jordan and the Illinois basketball program. He sounds like a great kid and likely to exceed the expectations for him, which don't seem that high as a freshman.

Jeff Jordan appears headed to Champaign

The Chicago Tribune article seems to indicate that Jeff Jordan is headed to Champaign to be a walk-on basketball player at Illinois. We had already heard that his application had been accepted, and now the word is that he will start school this summer. Announcement expected soon.

Further confirmation on a recruiting website Illinois Prep Bulls-Eye

There is lots of speculation about the impact of Jordan on Illinois' basketball program, which to me is rather silly. It is obviously a positive event for Illinois to have the son of the greatest basketball player ever to attend Illinois. Further, anyone who watched Michael as a college player and a pro knows that Michael kept improving until he was in his late 20's or early 30's. Finally, Jeff Jordan is rated a three star guard, and we have had very successful guys at Illinois that were rated three stars and lower in high school. And Weber is not even using up a scholarship for young Mr. Jordan. Awesome news, period!

The Jordan Buzz around Illinois

The buzz recently around Illini basketball is about a possible walk-on player named Jeff Jordan, who played basketball at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois. This could be an interesting development, since Jeff Jordan sounds like a talented basketball player, and has a well-known father named Michael. Having lived in the Chicago area most of my life, I am one of those people who firmly believes Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever, period. For those of you who want more background on Jeff Jordan, here are some links.
