Rumors surfacing on Lenzelle Smith, Jr.
Rumors are surfacing on the web that local sources at Zion-Benton think Lenzelle Smith, Jr. will announce his intentions very shortly, and they might involve the University of Illinois. Recall that Smith visited the Champaign Urbana campus recently and came away very impressed. Smith would make the Illini class of 2010 extremely strong, as he would be joining Crandall Head and Jereme Richmond, who could both find themselves in the McDonald's All American team. Lenzelle Smith, Jr. is a 6-3 wing player who is excellent on the court and academically, according to reports.

Lenzelle Smith Jr. visits Champaign Campus
According to this article in ChicagoHoops.com, Lenzelle Smith Jr. of Zion-Benton visited the Illini campus recently, and according to his father, the "the visit to the campus of the University of Illinois went extremely well, and gave high praise to Illinois head coach Bruce Weber."
An important point on Smith: "Smith is not just a star on the basketball court, but a star in the classroom as well. He currently carries a 4.2 grade point average, and ranks 12th in his class academically out of 844 students in his class."
With this type of academic background, Smith could take an athletic scholarship or academic scholarship at Illinois. So all of the worrying on the web about having enough athletic scholarships is a waste of time. Also, a lot can happen with transfers and early departures between now and 2010, in my opinion.
